First, let’s establish some background: I love non-instrumental music. I love instrumental music. I believe each are gifts and have a time and place. I am a musician. I write songs. I write worship songs. I have led worship. I have been in a worship band. I have gone to both mega churches and small churches. I have witnessed many different types of worship. I have Christian friends. I have non-Christian friends. Ok, on to the rest of what I want to say. “Worshiptainment” – it sounds ridiculous. I have seen many posts and heard many complaints over the development in modern worship, to which they have given this silly label. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, it is referring to the latest type of worship set found in many churches: the lights, the haze machines, the sound equipment, the multiple harmonies, the synth, the bass. Usually the vocals are quality and only decent musicians are allowed to touch the instruments. And trained individuals deal with lights and sound. It gets a bad rep because a whole slew of people have claimed it takes attention away from God and is solely focused on a show.
Here are some great quotes I’ve found on Facebook in regard to the matter: “It distracts from the Lord” “I just don’t like it” “It’s heretical” “Worship isn’t about the band” “Worship isn’t supposed to be entertaining” I’d like to respond to each of these statements, but from the standpoint of a songwriting musician who has experience on a worship team and has become well-acquainted with the leaders of worship teams in my own and other churches.
So, worshiptainment. I think it’s time for this phrase to go away. But that’s up to you, the worshiper.

I want to say God bless you for this wonderful post. It's truly enlightening. I have said some of these things at some point but only to those who truly deserved it. If you see someone truly worshipping you'll feel it in your spirit. That quote from the Pastor is so true. It should probably be said everywhere people worship.
